A trade license is a license or document of permission issued by the concerned municipal corporation or state government for particular trade within its limits at a particular business. It ensures that the citizens are not adversely affected by health hazards and nuisance by the improper carrying of trade.
However, the license does not allow the holder to carry out any other trade or business than for it is issued. Furthermore, this license does not pass on any kind of property ownership to the holder of the license.
The Trade license issued by the municipal authority is exclusively for the Trade or business.

• Food establishment license: hotels, restaurants, canteen, food stall, bakeries, the sale of vegetables and meat, etc.

Eligibility for getting a trade license:
• Person must have crossed minimum ages (18 years)
• Person must not have any criminal records
• Business must be capable of executing legal work
• Application has to make before you start running your business
• Renewal of application must be filled in 30 working days before the expiry of the license
• Once license is issued and it has to be maintained on an annual basis
Processing Time:
In general, it takes 7-10 days time to process the application for a Trade license in metro cities. However, in other small cities and rural areas, it takes longer.
Trade license Renewal:
Statically, trade licenses in India are renewed in between January 1st to March 31st. The validity of a license issued by the municipal authority is for a period of one year and is required to be renewed every year.
The application for renewal of the license is to be made within thirty days from the date of its expiry. In case the renewal process is delayed, then it may attract a fine depending upon the rules and regulations of the issuing authority.
Following are the documents that need to be submitted for renewal of the license:
1. Original copy of the trade License;
2. Previous year challans;
3. Up to date property tax paid receipt.
Penal provisions:
There are various other provisions, rules, and regulations that are required to be followed by the registered person. In case of failure to comply with the registration requirements of trade license and commencing any trade activity before the issuance of this license, the person in default will be liable to pay the prescribed penalty. Furthermore, legal action can also be taken against the defaulter.

• A latest municipal property tax receipt in case the premises are owned, else lease document or consent letter of the owner of the property where the business is registered.
• NOC of the neighbors (nearby property owners)
• Certified layout plan of the office
